Hon. Eleni Bakopanos
The Honorable Eleni Bakopanos P.C. , was the first woman born in Greece to be elected as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada.
Ms. Bakopanos served as a Member of Parliament from 1993 to 2006; first as the Member of Parliament for Saint-Denis ( Quebec) and was re-elected 3 times
in Ahuntsic (Quebec). She is a member of the Privy Council of Canada.
Eleni Bakopanos has served in a number of parliamentary roles including Assistant Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Secretary to a number of Ministers,
including the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
As a Member of Parliament she co-founded the Canada-Cyprus Parliamentary Friendship Group and reorganized the Canada-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Both groups of parliamentarians successfully promoted and advocated for issues of concern to Canadians of Hellenic and Greek-Cypriot origin.
Eleni Bakopanos also served as special advisor for caucus to the Honourable Stéphane Dion, when he was Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada
and Opposition Leader. She is a member and has served as President of the Women’s Commission of the Liberal Party of Canada (Quebec).
Eleni Bakopanos is presently the Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.
Prior to entering politics at the federal level, Eleni Bakopanos worked in provincial politics with the Liberal Party of Quebec and in the Quebec
government as policy advisor for the Quebec Premier and the Minister of Immigration and Cultural communities.
She was also a candidate in the electoral district of Cremazie for the Liberal Party of Quebec.
Eleni Bakopanos held the position of Senior Director for Government Relations at McGill University and is presently serving as Honorary
President of the McGill Women’s Alumnae Association where she served as President.
Eleni Bakopanos serves as a Director on a number of non-governmental and not-for-profit Boards and is presently the Chair of the National
Board of Directors of Equal Voice and VP of the Quebec Chapter.
Eleni Bakopanos has collaborated and volunteered with a number of organizations in the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal,
including serving on the Advisory Board of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal; AHEPA Canada (100th Anniversary commemorative stamp);
the Daughters of Penelope.
Eleni Bakopanos has received a number of awards and has been honoured, by a number of countries, including receiving the Order of the Hellenic
Republic for her contributions to Hellenism.

Nick Markettos, P. Eng., M. Eng. Retired from McMaster University as Assistant Vice-President of Research Partnerships and Innovation ,
Nick Markettos’ career spans the fields of engineering, energy (nuclear, renewables), public policy with focus on climate policy and the environment.
He worked in industry, government and academia and has a particular interest in research commercialization; industry-university partnerships and
innovation-driven economic development; tech business incubators and research parks.
At McMaster University he leveraged the University’s research strengths to stimulate regional economic development. He led the development of a biosciences
strategy for the Golden Horseshoe region and then did the same for the manufacturing sector, focusing on the automotive sector.
He was instrumental in developing the 37 acre McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) with a focus is on automotive, manufacturing and biosciences.
Nick led several government funding proposals for industry-university collaborations projects at MIP. From January to September 2018 Nick delayed his retirement
to serve as the interim CEO of MIP, while the MIP Board searched for a permanent CEO.
After that he returned to McMaster University from where he retired in April 2019. He currently assists the Faculty of Engineering on special projects and works
with several technology start-up companies on a part-time basis. Nick holds a B.Sc.(Hons) in Applied Sciences from Sussex University (UK) and a M.Eng.
in Control Systems from McMaster University. As Industry Professor he lectured on Energy and Public Policy in McMaster’s School of Engineering Practice.
In 2010 he was inducted to the Professional Engineers of Ontario Order of Honour.
He participated in industry and business organizations and served on the board of directors of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario
Centre for Environmental Technology Advancement (OCETA), on the Board of Directors of Innovation Factory (Regional Innovation Centre) and he
continues to serve on the Advisory Board of the McMaster Institute for Transportation and Logistics (MITL).

Dr. Kenneth Matziorinis
Dr. Kenneth (Kyriakos) Matziorinis holds a B.A. degree in Joint-Honours Economics & Political Science from McGill University (1976),
a M.A. (1979) and Ph.D. degrees in Economics (1988) from McGill University.
He is also a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a macroeconomic forecaster, invited to give his forecasts on the economy
and a frequent commentator in the media.
His research interests have been tax incentives for capital investment, the theory of expansion and replacement investment,
capital-output specificity and the impact of changes in the composition of output on capital investment, the role of
expectations in consumer and investment spending, the economies of Greece and Southeast Europe, the political economy of the
international monetary system and the economic history of the ancient world from Classical Greece, through the Hellenistic,
Roman and Byzantine periods.
He has taught at John Abbott since 1981 and he also teaches at McGill’s School of Continuing Studies at the graduate management
program where he has taught since 1979.
Ken is a two-time recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award (1993, 2006)
and the Scarlet Key Award (1975) from McGill University.
He has also taught at Concordia University, and the University of Toronto.
He has served on the board of directors of the National Bank of Greece (Canada) between 1991 and 2006, on the board of Trafalgar
School for Girls (2002-2011) and numerous community organizations.
He has served as President of the Canadian Order of AHEPA (2014-2016), the Canadian branch of the American Hellenic Educational
Progressive Association (AHEPA), the world’s oldest and largest Greek heritage organization.
He is the author of four textbooks in economics.

O Δρ Ιωάννης Μάζης είναι Professor, Turkish and Modern Asian Studies, Καθηγητής Οικονομικής Γεωγραφίας και Γεωπολιτικής
στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Τουρκικών Σπουδών και Σύγχρονων Ασιατικών Σπουδών.
Ειδικεύεται στη γεωπολιτική ανάλυση και συγκεκριμένα, στη συστημική γεωπολιτική ανάλυση και σε ζητήματα Διεθνούς Ασφάλειας.

έρευνας στο γεωπολιτικό σύστημα της Ευρύτερης Μέσης Ανατολής και της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου.
Είναι μέλος της Εθνικής Εταιρείας των Ελλήνων Λογοτεχνών από το 2020.
Τιμήθηκε με το Παράσημο του «Ιππότη του Τάγματος του Ακαδημαϊκού Φοίνικος» της Γαλλικής Δημοκρατίας και με τον τίτλο του

Dr Ioannis Mazis is Professor of Economic Geography and Geopolitics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and
President of the faculty of Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies.
He specializes in geopolitical analysis and in particular, in Systemic Geopolitical Analysis and also, in International Security.
He is director of studies in postgraduate degrees both at University of Athens and the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).
Moreover, he is the director of the “Laboratory of Geo-cultural Analysis of Broader Middle East and Turkey”, at the University of Athens.
He is the author of numerous scientific publications on International Security, as well as regarding forms, structures and functions
of the International Islamic Movement. He teaches in the majority of Greece’s post Graduate Defense and National Security Schools.
His research interests are the promotion of research in the Broader Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean region, as well as
methodology issues in geopolitical analysis. He is member of the Hellenic Literary Society, since 2020.
He is honored by the French Republic as “Chevalier de l’Ordre de Palmes Académiques” and he is Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts (FRSA-GB).

Pana Pappas Merchant (born April 2, 1943) is a Liberal Senator from the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. She has held the position since her appointment
to the Senate by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in 2002.
On January 29, 2014, Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau announced all Liberal Senators, including Merchant, were removed from the Liberal caucus,
and would continue sitting as Independents.
The Senators refer to themselves as the Senate Liberal Caucus even though they are no longer members of the parliamentary Liberal caucus.
Senator Pana announced her resignation from the Senate on March 31, 2017, approximately a year ahead of her mandatory retirement date.

Hon. Stelios Papathemelis
Ο Στυλιανός (Στέλιος) Παπαθεμελής είναι δικηγόρος και πολιτικός που διετέλεσε βουλευτής Α΄ Θεσσαλονίκης και υπουργός σε κυβερνήσεις του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου.
Είναι γνωστός κυρίως για τους πολύ στενούς δεσμούς του με την Εκκλησία της Ελλάδος. Γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη το 1938. Σπούδασε στη Νομική Θεσσαλονίκης
και άσκησε το δικηγορικό επάγγελμα.
Εξελέγη βουλευτής Α΄ Θεσσαλονίκης το 1974 με την Ένωση Κέντρου - Νέες Δυνάμεις και το 1977 με την ΕΔΗΚ.
Στη συνέχεια προσχώρησε στο ΠΑΣΟΚ. Είχε ταυτόσημες απόψεις με τον Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου στα λεγόμενα «εθνικά θέματα», ενώ συμφωνούσε και στην ανάγκη κρατικής
παρέμβασης στην οικονομία με στόχο την κοινωνική δικαιοσύνη και την εξάλειψη της ανισότητας.
Ωστόσο, είχε συντηρητικές απόψεις στα κοινωνικά θέματα, διαφορετικές απ' αυτές του επίσημου ΠΑΣΟΚ.
Στις κυβερνήσεις του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου διετέλεσε Υφυπουργός Εθνικής Παιδείας & Θρησκευμάτων (1982-85), Υπουργός Βόρειας Ελλάδας (1987-89)
και Υπουργός Δημόσιας Τάξης (1993-95). Το 1988 το Υπουργείο Βόρειας Ελλάδας μετονομάστηκε σε «Μακεδονίας - Θράκης».
Η θητεία του στο Υπουργείο Δημόσιας Τάξης ήταν επεισοδιακή, καθώς προσπάθησε να εφαρμόσει νόμο που υποχρέωνε τα νυχτερινά κέντρα διασκέδασης
να κλείνουν υποχρεωτικά στις 02:00.
Σε αυτή του την προσπάθεια τον υποστήριξε ο σύλλογος εργαζομένων στα νυχτερινά κέντρα, αλλά γενικά η κοινή γνώμη είδε αρνητικά το μέτρο.
Αργότερα αποχώρησε από το ΠΑΣΟΚ και το 2004 ίδρυσε νέο κόμμα, τη Δημοκρατική Αναγέννηση. Στις εκλογές του ίδιου έτους το κόμμα του δεν συμμετείχε
αυτόνομα και ο ίδιος εξελέγη βουλευτής στην Α΄ Θεσσαλονίκης ως συνεργαζόμενος με τη Νέα Δημοκρατία.
Το 2010 έθεσε υποψηφιότητα για τον δήμο Θεσσαλονίκης. Εν τέλει εξελέγη στο δημοτικό συμβούλιο.
Δοκίμιά του, πολιτικά και κοινωνιολογικά, έχουν δημοσιευθεί σε πολλά περιοδικά και εφημερίδες, ενώ νομικά συγγράμματά του έχουν δημοσιευθεί
στην «Επιθεώρηση Εργατικού Δικαίου» και στον «Αρμενόπουλο» του Δικηγορικού Συλλόγου Θεσσαλονίκης.
Έχει λάβει ενεργά μέρος σε κινήσεις για το όνομα της Μακεδονίας, καθώς και υπέρ της αναγραφής του θρησκεύματος στις ταυτότητες.
Η εφημερίδα Πολιτική Ενημέρωση, που εκδίδει ο Παπαθεμελής μέσω του «Πολιτικού Ομίλου για την Δημοκρατία και την Πατρίδα», κυκλοφορεί από το 1991.
Διακρίσεις
Έχει διακριθεί με την απονομή του Χρυσού Σταυρού του Αποστόλου Παύλου από τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Χριστόδουλο και την Διαρκή Ιερά Σύνοδο,
ένεκα «του κοινοβουλευτικού του ήθους, της ορθόδοξης χριστιανικής αντίληψης» και «της πολιτικής διορατικότητας ενός πολιτικού ανδρός με
χαρακτηριστικό γνήσιο πατριωτισμό».
Ο Μητροπολίτης Μεσογαίας Νικόλαος ανέφερε ότι «κατάφερε να χριστιανοποιήσει την πολιτική του αντίληψη και μαρτυρία και να δώσει πολιτική
έκφραση στις χριστιανικές του πεποιθήσεις» και ότι κατέδειξε στην πράξη πως «η χριστιανική πίστη μπορεί παντού να εκφράζεται, ακόμη και στην πολιτική».
Επίσης, ο Πατριάρχης Μόσχας και Πασών Ρωσιών Αλέξιος Β΄ τον περιέγραψε σε μήνυμά του ως «λαμπρό παράδειγμα συμβολής ενός πιστού τέκνου
της Εκκλησίας στην πολιτική ζωή του κόσμου».

Ο Παναγιώτης Σγουρίδης was born 1950 in Xanthi. Its origin is from Constantinople.
Graduate of School of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Rural and Surveying Engineering.
With continuous and long-lasting struggle and absolute dedication, identified himself with the Voice of Thrace to the Greek Parliament.
It counts 35 years of action, with the following important milestones:
Elected representative of the Department of East Macedonia - Thrace in the Technical Chamber of Greece
In 1982: Elected first Xanthi city councillor and was re-elected in 1986.
In 1986 -1987: Appointed president of the General Prefectural Hospital of Xanthi. From the position of president,
he campaigned vigorously and decisively contributed to the creation of new modern hospital of the county.
In 1989: Elected Member of Parliament with the PASOK and continuously re-elected until 2009.
In 1993-1996: He takes office of deputy Vice-President in the Greek Parliament.
The 1996 - 2004: He successfully for eight consecutive years serves the tasks of the deputy Vice-President of the Greek Parliament.
He was the essential initiator for the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee and participated in it with concrete proposals.
Result of this committee was the establishment of the Council of Hellenes Abroad and its continuation with permanent bipartisan special
committee of the House for Greeks Abroad, now officially called intercontinental.
He traveled many times abroad for the promotion of our national issues and the strengthening of the Diaspora.
He contributed greatly to the establishment of the International Parliamentary Union Members of Greek origin worldwide numbering approximately 130-170.
In 2014 he accepted the proposal of the president of the Independent Greeks party (ANEL) to work with the party and
drafted the text of the Electoral Declaration for the European elections in 2014.
In November 2014 the 2nd political conference of the movement of ANEL was the president of the Organizing Committee,
namely CALL - POLICY RECOMMENDATION EDUCATION & CULTURE - FOREIGN & DEFENSE bear strongly his own intervention.
From December 2014 was the chairman of the committee for selecting candidates on the lists of ANEL party nationwide in view of the then parliamentary elections
In the national elections of 2015, he was nominated an MP on the ballot of Independent Greeks.
In 2015, the first SYRIZA-ANEL government served as Undersecretary for Agricultural Development. In September 2015 the
2nd elections, he served as Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks. After the uproar caused in the last election,
with his statements, he resigned from this position.
In 2016 the 3rd ANEL Convention, was elected Vice President of the coalition party ANEL, the position currently serves.
On a private basis, he writes articles in various newspapers and local Athenian and deals with the care of the vines
and the production and distribution of local wine of the city of Avdira “Sgouridis” estate. Moreover states present in the country's affairs.

Τα τελευταία δέκα χρόνια έχει αφιερωθεί στην εκλαΐκευση της Αστρονομίας, με επιστημονικά άρθρα στον περιοδικό τύπο, με τηλεοπτικές παραγωγές και με
ομιλίες σε ευρύτατο κοινό.
Έχει συγγράψει τριάντα δύο βιβλία σχετικά με την Αστροφυσική και την Ιστορία και τη Φιλοσοφία των Επιστημών, ενώ έχει παρουσιάσει και τέσσερις ποιητικές συλλογές.
Για το ερευνητικό του έργο έχει βραβευτεί από την Ένωση Ελλήνων Φυσικών και από την Ένωση Κυπρίων Φυσικών.
Αντιστοίχως για το συγγραφικό του έργο έχει βραβευθεί από τον Σύλλογο Ελλήνων Λογοτεχνών και από το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών (Βραβείο Αρώνη και Βραβείο Κοσκορόζη).
Τέλος, έχει παρουσιάσει σε συνεργασία με τον επίκουρο καθηγητή Αστροφυσικής Μάνο Δανέζη, τις τηλεοπτικές εκπομπές «Το Σύμπαν που αγάπησα» (110 επεισόδια) και
«Έτσι βλέπω τον κόσμο» (16 επεισόδια) με αντίστοιχη επιστημονική θεματολογία, για τις οποίες έχει βραβευτεί με το “Hellenic-American University prize”.

Dr. Efstratios Th. Theodossiou, president of the Hellenic Physicists Society, is an astronomer and now member of the Emeriti Professors
Union of the University of Athens. He has worked as Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Athens.
His scientific interests include observational astronomy and astrophysics, satellite spectrophotometry of Be stars, variable stars
and History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Natural Sciences. He has published 91 scientific papers in international referred journals,
18 papers in the British Sundial Society Bulletin (BSB) and North American Sundial Society Bulletin (NASS), 226 papers in international
conference proceedings, 380 articles in Greek journals and newspapers.
In addition, he has exhibited a rich writing work with more than thirty books in Physics, Astronomy and History and Philosophy of Science.
For the last ten years, in association with the Assistant Professor E. Danezis, he has been creator, presenter and scientific supervisor
of the scientific television series “The Universe I Loved”, which already counts more than 110 episodes. He has been awarded the
"Hellenic-American University prize" in the 1st International Science Film Festival, for this television series.
Also, he has been awarded by the Hellenic Union of Physicists and by the Cyprian Union of Physicists for all of his scientific and educational activities.
Respectively for his writings (Books and articles) he has been awarded by the Association of Greek Writers and by the University of
Athens (Aronis Award and Koskorozis Award).
He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the Hellenic Union of Physicists (president from 2011),
the Foundation of "Preserving Language Heritage" and the Foundation of “Historical Studies of Ancient Greek Mathematics”.
He has been elected to the governing board of Hel.A.S. and he served as Treasurer (from 2002 to 2006).

Ιoannis Tsouras
Ο Ιωάννης Tσoύραs Γεννήθηκε στο Κυριάκι, στις πλαγιές του Ελικώνα. Είναι πτυχιούχος της Φυσικομαθηματικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου
Αθηνών και της Θεολογικής Σχολής του ίδιου πανεπιστημίου ενώ κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό από το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών στη Στατιστική.
Εργάστηκε στη Μέση Εκπαίδευση ως καθηγητής μαθηματικών και θρησκευτικών από το 1980 ενώ έχει διατελέσει διευθυντής στο 8ο Γυμνάσιο Ιλίου,
καθώς επίσης και διευθυντής Δευτεροβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης σε Φωκίδα και Βοιωτία.
Τα τελευταία χρόνια είναι διευθυντής του ιδιαίτερου γραφείου του Αρχιεπισκόπου ΑΘηνών και πάσης Ελλάδος κ. Ιερωνύμου.
Έναν άνθρωπο γνώριμο του από τα παλιά, ο οποίος χαίρει της απόλυτης εμπιστοσύνης του, επέλεξε ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αθηνών κ.κ. Ιερώνυμος
για την θέση του Διευθυντή του ιδιαίτερου γραφείου του στην Αρχιεπισκοπή.
Πρόκειται για τον εδώ και χρόνια συνεργάτη του, κ. Ιωάννη Τσούρα ο οποίος προέρχεται από τον χώρο της Εκπαίδευσης.
Μετά την εκλογή και τη χειροτονία του αρχιμανδρίτη Χρυσόστομου Παπαθανασίου - μέχρι πρότινος διευθυντή του ιδιαίτερου γραφείου
του Αρχιεπισκόπου - στη θέση του μητροπολίτη Μάνης, ο κ. Ιωάννης Τσούρας έρχεται να αναλάβει τη νευραλγική αυτή θέση, έχοντας
όπως λένε όσοι γνωρίζουν καλά τις ισορροπίες στο αρχιεπισκοπικό μέγαρο, την απόλυτη εμπιστοσύνη του Αρχιεπισκόπου.
Ο νέος Διευθυντής του ιδιαίτερου γραφείου του Αρχιεπισκόπου είναι 65 ετών, κατάγεται από την Βοιωτία και συγκεκριμένα από το Κυριάκι.
Είναι πτυχιούχος της Φυσικομαθηματικής Σχολής και της Θεολογικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, ενώ κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο σπουδών
στη Στατιστική από το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών.
